Customizing Your Bride Keepsake

Letter As I designed the bride keepsake, I planned for some level of customization, so it could accommodate each bride’s likeness and wedding dress choices. The ordering form above allows you to provide the following information that will help me create a unique bride figurine just for you. Below are directions to help you complete the form.

  • Body Style – select between a cardboard tube or a wooden peg as the body.
  • Facial Features & Hair – describe your skin tone and eye color. Next describe your hair color and texture. Finally, explain the style of the hairdo you are planning to wear on your wedding day.
  • Dress, Sash, Shoes & Veil – describe the color of your dress. Next, describe the color of your sash if any. Also, describe the color of your shoes. Finally, describe the length of your veil such as arm-length, floor-length, etc., or no veil at all.
  • Bouquet Color – describe the colors of your bouquet.
  • What materials are you providing? – indicate if you will be providing remnants of your wedding dress or any other item that you might want me to incorporate into the design of your one-of-a-kind Bride figurine. If you are, please describe the fabric/materials you will be providing and any specific ideas you might have. If you are not providing any materials, please type ‘none’ for this question.

The Creation Process

Here are the steps from order to delivery:

  • As soon as I receive your order, I will email you to set up a time for us to clarify any questions we both might have. If you live in town, we can have a face-to-face visit, otherwise a phone call or Zoom call will suffice. This will allow me to get to know you better and it will allow you to explain directly to me any ideas you might have. At this point, I will provide you with instructions on where to mail the fabric/materials if you are providing those. We will also discuss the delivery time.
  • As soon as I receive the materials you are providing, if that is the case, I will email you to let you know that I have received the materials. At this point, I may set up another call if I have any questions regarding the fabric/materials I received.
  • After that, I will start handcrafting the keepsake. I may email you during this step if questions arise. If at any time during the creation process, I ran into issues that will jeopardize the delivery date, I will notify you as soon as possible.

Finally, I will email you as soon as your beautiful keepsakes are in the mail.

Delivery Timeframe

Since these keepsakes are custom made on demand, the creation of the figurines takes longer. Also, the timeframe varies depending on how many custom orders I have in my queue. To be safe, please allow twelve (12) weeks from order date, for creation and delivery of the keepsakes. This accounts for one to three sets of figurines. If the order is for more than three (3) sets, the time frame may be longer. If you are providing remnants of your wedding dress or any other special materials, please ship the materials to me as soon as possible. In this case, the twelve (12) weeks start on the date I receive the materials..

Inspiration

Letter In a glass cabinet at my parent’s house, my mom had on display a wedding couple figurine. It was an old-fashioned cake topper that decorated my parent’s wedding cake. I have always been fascinated by this figurine. I used to take it out of the cabinet to admire it closely. The cake topper was certainly not an expensive decoration. And it was certainly not fragile either. In fact, the wedding couple figurine was plastic. But the memories it held were priceless. So, when my daughter Laura was to be married, I recalled that special figurine that decorated my parents’ wedding cake and decided to design a cake topper just for her.

My idea was to design a set of unique Bride and Groom figurines that could serve multiple purposes. I made the cake toppers with a hanging loop. This way, they could also be used to celebrate their 1st Christmas together, and any anniversary thereafter. Thus, this Bride ornament, and its Groom companion ornament commemorate the year when our little girl married the love of her life.

Designing the Bride Keepsake, Ornament and Cake Topper

For the original version of the bride figurine, I chose cardboard tubes to make their bodies. For the first ornaments I made, I used incredibly special materials. I covered the cardboard tubes with lace remnants from my daughter’s wedding dress. As her seamstress fiddled with the dress during several fitting sessions, small pieces of material were discarded, just big enough to make the dresses. Then, I added a small train resembling my daughter’s dress train which was not too long. For the veil, I used tulle from my own wedding veil.

The first brides I made were brunettes like my daughter Laura, with an updo hairdo. Creating the updo was challenging. Twisting and turning the deep brown yarn into artistic curls and buns and pinning them with needle and thread instead of hairpins was quite difficult. After the updo was done, I sewed the veil and decorated the hair with glass beads and pearls. Pearly earrings decorated her ears. To finish the wedding dress, I added a silk sash at the waist with a large bow decorating the back. And I could not forget the shoes. Nowadays, brides and grooms often choose to wear non-traditional shoes, and so did my daughter. So, the first brides I created had green shoes representing the green leather booties my daughter wore on her wedding day.

  1. Laura

I loved my cake toppers on my wedding day and I still cherish them now! Catalina was super easy to work with when getting details about my dress and my husbands suit. The ornaments are super detailed and I loved being able to pick all our features like hair and eye color. The ornaments held up well throughout the wedding day and now every year I put them on our Christmas tree, bringing back all the memories of love and excitement of that day!
