The ordering form above allows you to provide the following information that will help me create a unique groom figurine just for you. Below are directions to help you complete the form.

  • Body Style – select between a cardboard tube or a wooden peg as the body.
  • Facial Features & Hair – describe the tone of the groom skin and eye color. Next describe the groom’s hair color and haircut.
  • Wedding Outfit – describe the color of the groom’s suit and indicate whether it is a three- or two-piece suit, or no jacket. Next, describe the color of the shirt, tie, or bowtie and indicate if the groom will be wearing a cummerbund or not. Finally, indicate the color of the shoes.
  • Boutonniere Color – describe the colors of the groom’s boutonniere.
  • What materials are you providing? – indicate if you will be providing me with any materials that you might want me to incorporate into the design of your one-of-a-kind groom figurine. The Creation Process

Here are the steps from order to delivery:

  • As soon as I receive your order, I will email you to set up a time for us to clarify any questions we both might have. If you live in town, we can have a face-to-face visit, otherwise a phone call or Zoom call will suffice. This will allow me to get to know you better and it will allow you to explain directly to me any ideas you might have. At this point, I will provide you with instructions on where to mail the fabric/materials if you are providing those. We will also discuss the delivery time.
  • As soon as I receive the materials you are providing, if that is the case, I will email you to let you know that I have received the materials. At this point, I may set up another call if I have any questions regarding the fabric/materials I received.
  • After that, I will start handcrafting the keepsake. I may email you during this step if questions arise. If at any time during the creation process, I ran into issues that will jeopardize the delivery date, I will notify you as soon as possible.
  • Finally, I will email you as soon as your beautiful keepsakes are in the mail.

Delivery Time

Since these keepsakes are custom made on demand, the creation of the figurines takes longer. Also, the timeframe varies depending on how many custom orders I have in my queue. To be safe, please allow twelve (12) weeks from order date, for creation and delivery of the keepsakes. This accounts for one to three sets of figurines. If the order is for more than three (3) sets, the time frame may be longer. If you are providing remnants of your wedding dress or any other special materials, please ship the materials to me as soon as possible. In this case, the twelve (12) weeks start on the date I receive the materials.

Inspiration

Letter In a glass cabinet at my parent’s house, my mom had on display a wedding couple figurine. It was an old-fashioned cake topper that decorated my parent’s wedding cake. I have always been fascinated by this figurine. I used to take it out of the cabinet to admire it closely. The cake topper was certainly not an expensive decoration. And it was certainly not fragile either. In fact, the wedding couple figurine was plastic. But the memories it held were priceless. So, when my daughter Laura was to be married, I recalled that special figurine that decorated my parents’ wedding cake and decided to design a cake topper just for her.

My idea was to design a set of unique Bride and Groom figurines that could serve several purposes. I made the cake toppers with a hanging loop. This way, they could also be used to celebrate their 1st Christmas together, and any anniversary thereafter. Thus, this Groom ornament, and its Bride companion ornament commemorate the year when our little girl married the love of her life.

Designing the Groom Ornament and Cake Topper

For the original version of the Groom figurine, I chose cardboard tubes to make their bodies. The hardest part of making the Groom was, like the bride, the hair. Giving him a short-tailored cut was difficult given the tube shape of his body.

The first grooms I created were wearing a dark gray suit, dark gray vest, and a gold tie. This was the type of tuxedo my son-in-law, Zach, wore for his wedding. I tried using wool for the suit, but the material was too thick, making the jacket look bulky and out of proportion. So, I decided to try gray cotton from old men’s shirts. I still wanted the tweed or pin-striped effect that most men’s suits material have. Finding this material proved not to be easy. It took me several trips to different thrift stores, until I found just the right old men’s shirt. The shirt was made from lightweight cotton with a pleasant, interesting pattern.

I must confess that I did not know how to tie a necktie. Thank goodness for my mother-in-law, Betty, who taught my husband, and for my husband, Steve, who taught our son Michael how to tie his tie. So, when I needed to tie the ties of the Groom ornaments in the wee hours of the night, I had to rely on YouTube to learn how to tie a tie. After mastering tie tying, I had to figure out how to make the boutonniere as no groom’s wedding outfit is complete without one. My daughter had selected white orchids and white wildflowers for her bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres. So, I used dried mini baby’s breaths for the boutonnieres.
