Baby Dragon Ornament Design Process
Based on my research, Dragons are oviparous. Hence, they are born from eggs, huge eggs I may say. So, for quite some time, I have been trying to envision how this Baby Dragon might look. Finally, I had a truly clear picture in my mind of this dragon hatchling inside its egg.
For months, I cooked only recipes that included eggs as their primary ingredient. Therefore quiches, frittatas, omelets, American toad-in-the-holes, custards, and soufflés, were on the menu. If it had eggs, I made it. After many weeks, I had mastered the technique of cracking the eggs, not in the middle, but just about two thirds up from the rounded end. I needed a larger piece to put the baby dragon in, and a smaller piece of shell to put on top of the head. Therefore, I could depict that incredibly special moment when the baby dragon’s tiny horns would crack their protective shell. To protect the eggshells from cracking, I coated them with two-part epoxy resin, after first applying a coat of glitter.
Like the Dragon ornament, I hand-sew the Baby Dragon. Just like any other flying animals, baby dragons need to learn how to fly. Although, before they can fly, dragons must learn how to blow fire. So that they can generate the hot air they need to fly. So, Baby Dragon does not yet have the ability to produce fire.
Baby Dragon Ornament Customization
It is well known that dragons are very protective of their younglings and their nests. To complete the ornament, I added a sign, warning outsiders of the danger of disturbing a dragon’s nest. Alternatively, I thought that Baby Dragon would be a perfect ornament for commemorating a baby’s first Christmas. Thus, dragon lovers have the choice of selecting from two different signs: “Beware, Dragon’s Nest,” or “Baby’s 1st Christmas”.
Dedication
I dedicated this ornament to those winter Sunday mornings when the aroma of bacon and eggs filled the whole house. And my husband and I, satisfied after a hearty breakfast, would cuddle in the living room … dreaming … dreams.
