Cat Robot
ummaging through the electronic parts I had collected through the years, I realized I had a bunch of electronics cables. Thus, I started pondering, what I could do with these cables. In fact, the cables had all sorts of interesting connectors. Certainly, I wanted to highlight these common objects that surround us daily. Particularly, because we do not give them much thought until they break, and our electronic equipment stops working. So, I thought that these long winding cables with a variety of plugs would make for quite whimsical cat tails. Hence, I came up with the idea for the Cat Robot. This Cat Robot ornament is the perfect gift for the technology enthusiasts and cat lovers on your holiday list. Moreover, pair it with the Millennial Text Bot ornament for a complete set that will delight them for many years.
Cat Robot Ornament Design Process
So, after deciding to use the cables as the tail of the cat robot, I still needed to design the ornament. In other words, I had to select the rest of the materials to be incorporated into the design. Firstly, I chose strong cardboard tubes that my son had given me once upon a time. In fact, these tubes had come from the packing materials of bicycle frames. Secondly, just like the Millennial Text Bot, I selected the spring mechanism from the keyboard’s keys to frame its eyes. Thirdly, I thought that the small function keys from old keyboards would add a whimsical touch to the cat. And so, bit by bit, idea by idea, the design came together in my head.
Next, was the matter of creating the Cat Robot personality. It needed to be playful like the Kitty Boy and Kitty Girl ornaments from the Pets & Animals Ornaments Collection. Thus, I gave it black stripes on its forehead and cheeks. Finally, just like my other robots, I gave it a heart, a silver heart.
I used plastic gemstones as the eyeballs to give the eyes a glassy effect. For cheeks, I utilized pink glittered cardstock. Also, I used bamboo beads from a placemat as ears. Even more, to add a metallic effect, I dip the ears in black glitter. To complete the design, I used miscellaneous electronic wires as hair. Moreover, I twirled the wires, which accentuated its playful nature.
