he fantastic creatures I read about in my fairy tale books and folk tales have always sparked my imagination. So, it is not surprising that gnomes are one of these creatures that has captured my attention since my childhood. In fact, one time a gnome paid a visit to me and my twin sister when we were old enough to sleep on toddler beds. Since then, I always keep an eye out for gnomes, and imagine them living all around us. Also, I imagine them being gardeners, miners, foragers, and why not, basketball players too! Thus, I decided to create the Basketball Player Gnome figurine especially designed for the fans of this wonderful sport. Basketball Player Gnome Ornament Design Process

The first sports player gnome I created was the Buckeye Gnome who is an American college Football player. So, when designing the basketball player gnome, I had to first decide what seed or pod I was going to use instead of a buckeye. One of my husband’s favorite pies is Pecan Pie. So, I almost always have pecans in my kitchen’s pantry. Pecans perfectly smooth and remarkably elongated. I thought that maybe I could use pecans for their bodies because basketball players are usually very tall. Like the other gnomes, I designed this gnome with a tall hat. Also, I added a long scarf to protect him from cold and windy weather. Finally, I gave him a basketball so he would be ready to play the game. Perhaps, if you pay close attention this winter, you may see him scurrying under the bleachers!
