Second Star to the Right Ornament
hen Peter Pan explains to Wendy how to get to Neverland, he uses the words “second to the right, and straight on till morning.” “Second” refers to a star, the second star to the right that Wendy could see from her nursery’s window. This star is certainly not at all a character in Peter Pan’s story, but it is an especially important symbol. First, the second star to the right represents the connection between two worlds, Peter Pan’s world and Wendy’s. Second, it is the portal between the real world and your imagination. Lastly, it is a portal between Victorian England and Neverland. Given the importance of this symbol, I decided to embody it in this carefully handcrafted Second Star to the Right ornament.
Second Star to the Right Ornament Design Process
As I collect odds and ends, and whatnots, they stay stored in the attic, sometimes for years. It is not until my inspiration strikes, that I am able to bring them back to life. As I was considering the design of this ornament, I remembered some old plastic star ornaments my husband Steve had found at a secondhand store years ago. With this in mind, my imagination gave birth to the design for the Second Star to the Right ornament. First, I framed the star in a glittery circle. Then, I added crystal beads and ribbons. As a final touch, I incorporated a fairy charm that represents Tinker Bell who flutters capriciously around this carefully handcrafted ornament.
