Inspiration

Letter Ihave done quite a bit of research on fairies and know a bit about their lore. I know that there are thousands of fairy species, such as the Flower Fairies, which are the most well-known and beloved by children and fairy collectors. So, I chose the Flower Fairy to start my Stick Puppet Figurine Collection. I created the Flower Fairy Stick Puppet figurine especially designed for all boys and girls in mind. This fairy will bring a smile to kids’ faces as they decorate the Christmas Tree with these delightful ornaments.

Flower Fairy Stick Puppet Ornament Design Process

A Bit of Fairy Lore

Usually, flower fairies have long hair that cascades down their back and their silky hair gets tangled in their silvery wings from time to time. Flower Fairies make their clothes with flower petals, usually from the flower where they have chosen to make their home. During hot days, if you are lucky, you can see them wearing flowers as hats to shade their delicate faces from the sun.

Fairies like cooler temperatures. Spring or Fall are the best seasons to catch a glimpse of them. The queens or leaders of the flock carry wands to sprinkle fairy dust to light the way when flying at dusk.

The Design

First, I made the fairy bodies and heads from wooden beads that came from old Christmas garlands. Then, I gave the fairies long hair made from embroidery thread, and painted their delicate faces with a friendly smile and rosy cheeks. Finally, I used silk flowers as their hats, just as I have read in many fairy lore books.

To make their skirts, I first cut petals from a flower-patterned translucent material. Then, I laid the petals over several layers of tulle. Next, I used multi-colored ribbons and placed them flowing from their waist. I wanted to make them resemble rays of light emanating from their ethereal bodies. Then, I made their wings from lace that I covered with light organza.

Like all the other members of the Stick Puppets Collection, the Flower Fairy sits on a long stick. This way, a kid’s little hands can grab the stick without crushing the fairy’s dainty features.
