Summer Fairy Ornament

created this Summer Fairy ornament to honor this magical season when vegetables are growing, and birds chirp around us. Thus, I tried capturing the uniqueness of the weather and the shades of color that envelope us. Also, I created this keepsake for fairy collectors all around the world. And for all those little minds that still know how to dream of magical creatures and fantasy lands. Therefore, this flower fairy of the summer is the ideal gift for the fairy believers and nature lovers on your holiday list.

Summer Fairy Ornament Design Process

A World of Two Seasons

Growing up in Venezuela, I never had the opportunity to experience the four seasons. As a matter of fact, a dry and a rainy season was all there was to experience. Nonetheless, our two seasons had their own charms. That being the case, I especially liked the rainy season.

I loved when torrential rains would fall from the sky like curtains of water and smell of the dampness in the air. I enjoyed how the tree frogs would croak, and the mixing of the sound with the sound of the raindrops. The sounds stitched together in beautiful melodies that would lull you to sleep. But I always wondered how it would feel to experience the dropping of the leaves. And snowflakes dissolving on your tongue. How would it feel to see the trees waking up after the long winter with the crocuses peeking through the still white-covered frozen ground?

A World of Four Seasons

Without intending to, I ended up living in the United States. I first arrived in January, in the middle of winter. And without much warning, I experienced both the chilling of my bones and the beauty of the snow. Soon afterwards, I saw the blooming of the first bulbs, and the ice crusting over the tree branches. When summer arrived I enjoyed a vegetable garden, and the flickering of lighting bugs. I especially loved the fall harvest and the changing color of the leaves. And once again, I experienced the chilling in the air, and the warmth of a fireplace.

The Creation of the Summer Fairy Ornament

Consequently, I understood what it meant having the world change around you as the seasons would roll by. And, as the seasons churned, I bounced from realm to realm until I was back where I had started. Thus, I created the Summer Fairy to represent the Summer realm. I designed her with the shades of yellows and oranges of the shining sun. And I added the bright greens of the mature leaves. And gave her dragonfly wings. Finally, I gave her half a sweetgum ball for her summer hat.
